Description

A spooky and delicious Witches Brew Wine Sangria perfect for Halloween parties, combining tart cherry juice, pomegranate juice, red wine, and ginger beer with a candied blood rim made from tart cherry juice and honey.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Sangria:

  • 1/2 cup tart cherry juice
  • 1/2 cup pomegranate juice
  • 1 bottle red wine (Zinfandel recommended)
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 24 ounces ginger beer
  • dry ice (for effect)

For the Candied Blood Rim:

  • 1/2 cup tart cherry juice
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1/2 cup pomegranate seeds (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Make the Sangria: Combine the tart cherry juice, pomegranate juice, red wine, orange juice, and ginger beer in a large pitcher, punch bowl, or cauldron. Stir gently to mix all ingredients evenly.
  2. Prepare the Candied Blood Rim: In a small saucepan, combine tart cherry juice and honey. Simmer over low heat for 15 minutes until the mixture thickens and stops boiling as moisture evaporates. Remove from heat and allow to cool completely before using.
  3. Rim the Glasses: Dip each glass into the cooled candied blood mixture, letting it drip down the sides to create a blood-like effect.
  4. Assemble Individual Drinks: Fill the rimmed glasses with sangria and top each with pomegranate seeds for garnish. Optionally, add a small piece of dry ice to each glass just before serving for a spooky bubbling effect. Handle dry ice carefully and do not ingest.

Notes

  • Use Zinfandel or any fruity red wine for best flavor.
  • If dry ice is not available, omit for a safe but still festive presentation.
  • The candied blood rim can be prepared in advance and stored refrigerated.
  • Stir sangria gently before serving to redistribute ingredients.
  • Be cautious handling and serving dry ice; never ingest it and keep away from children.
