Description

Delicious Vinegar Rolls are a sweet and tangy treat made with a flaky pie crust, butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and a flavorful apple cider vinegar sauce. Perfectly baked to golden perfection, these rolls are great for dessert or a special snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Sauce Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup water
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar

Roll Ingredients

  • 1 9-inch pie crust, storebought or homemade
  • 4 tablespoons butter, softened and divided
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F to get it ready for baking the rolls.
  2. Make Sauce: In a saucepan over low heat, combine the water, 2/3 cup brown sugar, cinnamon, and apple cider vinegar. Stir until the sugar dissolves completely, then set the sauce aside.
  3. Prepare Dough: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the pie dough into a rough 12×11 inch rectangle to create a flat base for the rolls.
  4. Add Butter and Cinnamon Sugar: Spread 2 tablespoons of softened butter evenly over the dough surface. Mix cinnamon into 1/4 cup brown sugar and sprinkle it over the butter. Use a spatula to spread the cinnamon sugar mixture evenly.
  5. Roll and Slice Dough: Starting from a long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log. Slice the rolled dough into 12 rounds to form individual rolls.
  6. Arrange and Butter Rolls: Place the 12 rolls in a 9×9 inch baking dish. Dot the rolls with the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter for added richness.
  7. Add Sauce and Bake: Pour the hot vinegar sauce over the arranged rolls. Bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes until the rolls are golden and cooked through.
  8. Serve: Serve the rolls hot, optionally with heavy cream for extra indulgence. Enjoy your delicious vinegar rolls!

Notes

  • Use a heavy baking dish to help conduct heat evenly for better browning.
  • If you prefer a softer crust, cover the rolls loosely with foil during the first part of baking and remove near the end.
  • Homemade pie crust can add a flakier texture compared to storebought.
  • For a dairy-free option, substitute the butter with a plant-based margarine.
  • Serve warm the same day for best flavor and texture.
