Description

Quick and easy Five Minute Bourbon Balls made with semisweet chocolate, honey, vanilla wafer crumbs, ground nuts, and bourbon whiskey. Perfect no-bake treats that develop rich flavor over time and are ideal for holiday gatherings or quick dessert fixes.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons honey plus more if needed
  • 1 1/2 cups finely ground vanilla wafer crumbs or shortbread crumbs
  • 1 1/2 cups finely ground walnuts or ground pecans
  • 3-4 tablespoons bourbon whiskey such as Wild Turkey or Jim Beam

Instructions

  1. Reserve Nuts: Pour 1/2 cup of the ground walnuts in a small bowl and set aside for later use.
  2. Melt Chocolate Mix: Mix chocolate chips and honey in a 1 1/2 quart microwaveable bowl. Heat in the microwave at full power for 1-2 minutes, stirring every 30 seconds, until the mixture can be stirred smooth with no lumps remaining.
  3. Combine Ingredients: Stir in the ground vanilla wafers, remaining ground walnuts, and bourbon whiskey. Stir until the mixture is quite thick but well combined.
  4. Form Balls: Scoop out the mixture by level tablespoons and roll into balls.
  5. Coat Balls: Roll each ball in the reserved 1/2 cup of ground walnuts to coat.
  6. Store: Store the bourbon balls tightly in a covered container. Allow the flavor to fully develop over four days. Properly stored, they will keep up to 4 weeks.

Notes

  • If you don’t have a microwave, melt the chocolate and honey over medium-low heat in a saucepan, stirring continuously until smooth. This method will take a little longer but works well.
  • The mixture should be thick but scoopable and able to pack well into balls. If too dry, add a splash more bourbon. If too crumbly, add 1 additional tablespoon of honey.
  • Allowing the bourbon balls to rest for several days enhances their flavor and texture.
  • Use gloves or powdered hands to help roll the balls if the mixture sticks to your fingers.
