Description

These Halloween Bat Cupcakes are a fun and spooky treat perfect for festive celebrations. Made with a rich chocolate cake base and creamy chocolate buttercream frosting, they are decorated with Oreo cookies to resemble bats with wings and candy eyes for a playful touch.

Ingredients

Scale

Cupcakes

  • 1 box Chocolate Cake Mix
  • 3 Eggs
  • 1/2 cup Vegetable Oil
  • 1 cup Water

Frosting

  • 1 cup Butter, softened
  • 3 cup Powdered Sugar
  • 1/2 cup Cocoa Powder

Decorations

  • 24 Oreo Cookies, divided
  • 24 Oreo Mini Cookies
  • 24 Candy Eyes

Instructions

  1. Prepare Cake Batter. Follow the cake mix instructions on your box by combining the cake mix with water, vegetable oil, and eggs. Beat until the batter is smooth and well combined.
  2. Bake Cupcakes. Line cupcake pans with paper liners and pour the batter evenly into 24 cupcake cups. Bake according to the cake mix directions, typically about 16 minutes at 350°F.
  3. Cool Cupcakes. Remove the cupcakes from the oven and allow them to cool completely on a wire rack before frosting.
  4. Make Chocolate Buttercream Frosting. Cream the softened butter in a mixing bowl until fluffy. Gradually add powdered sugar while beating to combine, then slowly mix in cocoa powder until the frosting is smooth and chocolatey.
  5. Prepare Decorations. Carefully cut 24 full-sized Oreo cookies in half to create wings. Place the remaining Oreo cookies in a food processor and pulse until finely crushed.
  6. Frost Cupcakes. Generously frost each cooled cupcake with the chocolate buttercream. Then roll the frosting-topped cupcakes in the crushed Oreo cookies to coat them.
  7. Decorate as Bats. Insert the Oreo halves on either side of the frosting mound to form bat wings. Press one Oreo Mini cookie in front of the wings to represent the bat’s head. Finally, stick two candy eyes onto each Oreo Mini to complete the bat look.

Notes

  • For the best results, make the chocolate buttercream frosting from scratch instead of using store-bought frosting for better flavor and texture.
  • Ensure the cupcakes are completely cooled before frosting to prevent the frosting from melting.
  • You can substitute regular Oreos with gluten-free or vegan Oreos to accommodate dietary restrictions.
  • If you don’t have a food processor, place the Oreos in a plastic bag and crush them with a rolling pin for the coating.
