Description

A flavorful Old Bay Shrimp Boil featuring jumbo shrimp, smoky sausage, sweet corn, and tender red potatoes simmered in a seasoned broth and tossed in a garlic butter sauce for a classic seafood feast.

Ingredients

Scale

Seafood Boil

  • 2 pounds large jumbo shrimp peeled and deveined, leave tails on
  • 1 pound smoked sausage kielbasa or andouille, cut into 1 inch pieces
  • 4 ears corn each cut into 4 pieces
  • 1 pound small red potatoes cut in half
  • 1 medium onion cleaned and cut into large pieces
  • 4 lemons, 2 for cooking, 2 for serving
  • 4 cloves garlic cleaned and smashed
  • ⅓ cup seafood seasoning like Old Bay
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley plus more for garnish chopped

Butter Sauce

  • ½ cup unsalted butter

Instructions

  1. Prepare the broth: Fill a large pot with water. Quarter two lemons and add them to the water. Then add the onion, garlic, and seafood seasoning to the water. Bring the water to a boil.
  2. Cook the potatoes: Clean and cut the potatoes in half. Add the potatoes to the boiling water and cook for 12 minutes or until just barely fork tender.
  3. Add corn and sausage: Clean and cut the corn. Add the corn along with the sliced smoked sausage to the boiling water. Cook for 6 minutes.
  4. Cook the shrimp: Add the shrimp to the boiling water and cook an additional 3 minutes or until they turn pink and are cooked through.
  5. Drain the boil: Drain the water from the pot and place the shrimp mixture on a large baking sheet.
  6. Make the butter sauce: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter. Add salt, pepper, and 2 tablespoons chopped parsley to the melted butter and whisk to combine.
  7. Mix the boil with butter: Pour half of the butter mixture over the shrimp mixture and stir to coat evenly. Reserve the remaining butter mixture for serving.
  8. Garnish and serve: Garnish the shrimp boil with additional chopped parsley and lemon wedges. Sprinkle additional seafood seasoning to taste if desired. Serve immediately with the reserved butter sauce.

Notes

  • Use smoked kielbasa or andouille sausage for authentic smoky flavor; substitute with chorizo if desired.
  • Leave shrimp tails on for easier handling and presentation.
  • Adjust seafood seasoning amounts based on your preferred spice level.
  • Melt butter gently to avoid burning the garlic.
  • Serve with crusty bread or coleslaw for a complete meal.
  • Make sure not to overcook the shrimp to avoid rubbery texture.
