Description

Warm up with this cozy Maple Bourbon Apple Cider, a spiced and comforting beverage perfect for chilly days. Infused with citrus slices, warming spices, and sweet maple syrup, then enhanced with a splash of bourbon for a delightful kick.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 2 L apple cider
  • 2 orange slices
  • 2 lemon slices
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 8-10 whole cloves
  • 3 whole star anise
  • 4 tbsp maple syrup
  • 6 oz bourbon (about 1 oz per serving)

For Garnish

  • Extra cinnamon sticks
  • Extra star anise

Instructions

  1. Heat the cider: In a saucepan, place the apple cider over medium-high heat. Add the orange and lemon slices, cinnamon sticks, cloves, and star anise. Bring the mixture up to a simmer.
  2. Simmer and steep: Once simmering, reduce the heat to low and let the cider gently steep for 30 minutes to allow the spices and citrus to fully infuse the cider.
  3. Add sweetness and strain: After steeping, stir in maple syrup to taste. Then remove and discard the orange and lemon slices, cinnamon sticks, cloves, and star anise.
  4. Serve with bourbon: Pour about 1 oz of bourbon into each mug. Top with hot spiced apple cider.
  5. Garnish and enjoy: Garnish each serving with a cinnamon stick and star anise if desired. Serve warm and enjoy your comforting drink.

Notes

  • You can adjust the amount of maple syrup based on your preferred sweetness level.
  • For a non-alcoholic version, omit the bourbon and enjoy the cider as is.
  • Use fresh spices for the best flavor infusion.
  • Keep the cider on low heat after steeping to maintain warmth without boiling off the alcohol when serving.
  • To make ahead, prepare the infused cider without bourbon and reheat before serving.
