Bread
- 1 loaf Italian bread
- 1/2 cup (1 stick / 113 g) unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup (50 g) parmesan cheese, grated
- 1 teaspoon garlic salt
- 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
Lasagna Mixture
- 1/2 pound ground beef
- 2 cups (514 g) marinara sauce, divided
Topping
- 1 cup (113 g) mozzarella cheese, shredded, divided
- 1 cup (113 g) sharp cheddar, shredded, divided
- parsley, chopped for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set it aside.
- Prepare Bread: Slice the loaf of Italian bread lengthwise into two halves, and place both halves cut side up on the prepared baking sheet.
- Make Garlic Butter: In a small bowl, combine softened butter, grated parmesan cheese, garlic salt, and Italian seasoning. Spread this butter mixture evenly over the cut sides of the bread halves. Set aside.
- Cook Ground Beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, breaking it up with a spatula, until browned and fully cooked, about 7 minutes. Drain any excess grease.
- Add Marinara Sauce: Reduce the heat to low and stir in 1 cup of marinara sauce. Let it simmer for 2 to 3 minutes until heated through, then remove from heat.
- Assemble Bread: Spread half of the marinara and beef mixture evenly over each bread half. Sprinkle ½ cup of shredded mozzarella and ½ cup of shredded cheddar cheese on top of each.
- Bake and Broil: Bake in the preheated oven for 14 minutes or until the bread is toasted and the cheese has melted. Then broil for an additional 2 to 3 minutes, watching carefully, until the cheese turns golden brown.
- Garnish and Serve: Remove from oven, garnish with chopped parsley. Cut into pieces and serve immediately with the remaining marinara sauce for dipping.
Notes
- For air fryer preparation, after assembling the bread, cut to fit your air fryer basket.
- Air fry at 350°F for 5 minutes or until the cheese melts and is golden brown.
- You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
- Italian seasoning can be replaced with dried oregano and basil if unavailable.
- Make sure to watch carefully during broiling to avoid burning the cheese.
