Description

Halloween Witch Apples are a fun and festive treat perfect for spooky celebrations. These creative snacks combine fresh green apples decorated with candy eyes, strawberry witch hats covered in dark chocolate, and charming string cheese brooms for a delightful and easy-to-make Halloween appetizer or party snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Witch Hats

  • 6 strawberries washed
  • 6 sugar cookies
  • 1 cup dark melting chocolate
  • 12 large candy eyes
  • 6 mini yellow M&Ms
  • Halloween colored sprinkles
  • ¼ cup white icing
  • ¼ cup orange icing
  • ¼ cup purple icing
  • ¼ cup green icing

Apples

  • 6 green apples, stems removed, washed

String Cheese Brooms

  • 3 sticks of string cheese
  • 6 chocolate Twizzlers
  • 6 chocolate Pocky sticks

Instructions

  1. Prepare Witch Hats: Using a small knife, cut the tops off each strawberry to create a flat, even top.
  2. Assemble Hats on Cookies: Place a dot of white icing on each sugar cookie and place the strawberry cut side down onto the icing to form the witch hat.
  3. Melt Chocolate and Coat Hats: In a small bowl, melt the dark chocolate as per package instructions. Spoon melted chocolate over the strawberry hats, then place them on a non-stick surface. Refrigerate to harden the chocolate, about a few minutes.
  4. Prepare Apples: Cut a small slice off the bottom of each apple so they sit level and don’t roll around.
  5. Attach Eyes on Apples: Use white icing to place small dots where the candy eyes will go, then press large candy eyes onto the dots.
  6. Put Hats on Apples: Spread a thin layer of white icing around the top of each apple and gently place a chocolate-covered strawberry witch hat on top. Ensure the icing layer is thin to prevent sliding.
  7. Decorate Hats: Pipe a ring of colored icing around where the strawberry meets the cookie on each hat. Place a mini yellow M&M on the front of each icing band and sprinkle with Halloween colored sprinkles. Chill apples in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to set.
  8. Prepare String Cheese Brooms: Cut each string cheese stick in half. Make small cuts or peel the string cheese about ¾ of the way up to create broom bristles.
  9. Attach Pocky Sticks: Insert one chocolate Pocky stick about ½ inch into the uncut end of each string cheese piece to form the broom handle.
  10. Add Twizzler Ties: Cut each chocolate Twizzler in half lengthwise. Tie each half around the top of the string cheese broom handle without pulling too tight to avoid breaking. Trim excess Twizzler.
  11. Serve: Serve the witch apples and string cheese brooms chilled or at room temperature.

Notes

  • Store witch apple snacks in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Substitute icing colors to fit your favorite Halloween color scheme such as green, orange, purple, black, brown, yellow, or red.
  • Chocolate Twizzlers can be substituted with licorice Twizzlers if preferred.
  • Chocolate Pocky sticks can be replaced with chocolate-covered pretzel sticks for the broom handles.
