Description

These festive Halloween Pretzels combine crunchy pretzel sticks dipped in rich chocolate with colorful, hand-shaped fondant decorations like candy corn, ghosts, and pumpkins. Perfect for a spooky treat that’s fun to make and delightful to share at Halloween parties or as seasonal snacks.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 15-20 pretzel sticks
  • 200 grams white fondant (7 ounces)
  • Orange gel food coloring
  • Green gel food coloring
  • Yellow gel food coloring
  • Purple gel food coloring
  • Black gel food coloring
  • 25 grams chopped white chocolate (2 tablespoons)
  • 25 grams dark chocolate (2 tablespoons)

Instructions

  1. Prepare your workspace: Line a small tray with parchment paper or a silicone mat to prevent sticking and make cleanup easy.
  2. Tint and portion fondant: With clean, gloved hands, divide the white fondant into five golf ball-sized balls of about 40 grams each and one small marble-sized ball. Add gel food coloring to each ball to tint them orange, green, yellow, purple, black, or any combination you like. Wrap each ball tightly in plastic wrap and keep wrapped when not in use to prevent drying.
  3. Create fondant decorations: Sculpt small fondant shapes around 1 inch in size, such as candy corn, ghosts, mummies, monsters, pumpkins, bats, and witch hats. Press each decoration gently on top of a pretzel stick to make a half-inch indentation, then remove the decoration and place it on the prepared tray. Keep the tray covered with a sheet of parchment or a clean cloth to prevent dust contamination and allow the decorations to dry and firm for about 2-3 hours.
  4. Melt chocolates: Place the chopped white chocolate and dark chocolate separately in microwave-safe bowls. Microwave in short 20-30 second bursts, stirring in between until smooth and fully melted.
  5. Assemble pretzels: Dip one end of each pretzel stick into the melted chocolate. Then, attach a dried fondant decoration onto the chocolate-dipped end. Use dark chocolate for black decorations and white chocolate for white decorations, or use one type of chocolate if preferred. Place assembled pretzels back on the lined tray and allow the chocolate to set at room temperature completely.
  6. Storage: Once set, store your Halloween pretzels in an airtight container at room temperature. They will stay fresh for up to two weeks.

Notes

  • Use gloves when handling fondant to keep colors vibrant and prevent fingerprints.
  • If the fondant becomes too sticky, dust with a little cornstarch or powdered sugar to ease shaping.
  • Keep the decorated pretzels covered to avoid dust or airborne particles settling on them while drying.
  • Chocolate can be tempered for a shinier finish, but melting in the microwave is convenient and effective.
  • You can customize the fondant shapes to any Halloween theme you prefer.
  • Make sure chocolate is fully set before stacking or packaging to avoid smudging.
  • Store in a cool, dry place away from humidity to maintain crispness of pretzels.
