Ingredients
Scale
Donut Batter
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup cocoa
- ¾ cup sugar
- ½ cup oil
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ cup milk
Glaze & Decorations
- 2 cups confectioner’s sugar
- 3 tablespoons milk
- ¼ cup Halloween sprinkles
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Pans. Preheat the oven to 350°. Spray two 6-cup donut pans or one 12-cup donut pan with cooking spray to prevent sticking, and set aside.
- Mix Dry Ingredients. In a medium mixing bowl, stir together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder until evenly combined.
- Cream Sugar and Oil. In a separate large bowl, combine the sugar and oil. Whisk them together until the mixture becomes fluffy and well blended.
- Add Eggs and Vanilla. Beat in the eggs one at a time, ensuring each is fully incorporated before adding the next. Then add the vanilla extract and continue beating until well-mixed.
- Incorporate Flour Mixture and Milk. Pour the dry flour mixture and the milk into the wet ingredients. Gently fold everything together until just combined, being careful not to over-mix to maintain a tender texture.
- Fill Donut Pans. Spoon about 3 tablespoons of batter into each donut cup, filling them adequately without overflowing.
- Bake. Place the pans in the preheated oven and bake for 15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the donuts comes out clean. Remove from oven and let the donuts cool on a cooling rack.
- Prepare Glaze. While the donuts are cooling, mix the confectioner’s sugar and milk in a small bowl until smooth and thick to create the glaze.
- Glaze and Decorate. Dip the tops of each cooled donut into the glaze, then place them on parchment paper. Immediately sprinkle the Halloween sprinkles on top before the glaze sets.
- Set and Serve. Allow the glaze to set completely at room temperature. Serve the donuts at room temperature for best flavor and texture.
Notes
- Donut pans can be substituted with silicone molds if available for easy removal.
- Ensure not to overmix the batter to keep the donuts light and tender.
- You can substitute milk with any plant-based milk to make this recipe dairy-free.
- The glaze can be tinted with food coloring for extra festive colors.
- Store donuts in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days to maintain freshness.
