Description

Crispy and flavorful green bean fries coated in a Parmesan and panko breadcrumb crust, baked to golden perfection for a delicious and healthy snack or side dish.

Ingredients

Scale

Breading

  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • ¾ cup panko breadcrumbs
  • ¼ cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper

Vegetables

  • 1 pound fresh green beans (about 40 beans), washed and trimmed

Other

  • cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit and lightly spray a large half sheet baking pan with nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare Breading Stations: Place the flour and beaten eggs each in separate mixing bowls. In a shallow dish, combine panko breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper to make the breadcrumb mixture.
  3. Coat Green Beans with Flour: Toss the green beans in the flour to lightly coat them, then shake off any excess flour to ensure the coating sticks properly.
  4. Dip in Egg: Dip the floured green beans into the beaten egg, allowing any excess egg to drip off for an even coating.
  5. Coat with Breadcrumb Mixture: Toss the egg-coated green beans into the panko mixture, pressing firmly so that the crumbs adhere well on all sides.
  6. Arrange and Spray: Transfer the breaded green beans to the prepared baking pan in a single layer. Spray the tops lightly with cooking spray to help achieve a crispy texture.
  7. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 12 minutes or until the green bean fries are golden-brown and crispy.

Notes

  • Storing: Allow the green bean fries to cool completely before placing them in an airtight container lined with paper towels to absorb moisture and keep them crispy. If the container lid fogs up, the fries are not cooled enough. Stored this way, they will keep for up to four days in the refrigerator.
  • Reheating: To reheat, use an oven, toaster oven, or air fryer. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and arrange the fries with space between them. Heat for 5 minutes or until warmed through, which helps maintain their crispiness.
  • Serving Suggestion: Serve with your favorite dipping sauce such as ranch dressing or a spicy aioli for an extra burst of flavor.
  • Ingredient Substitution: For a gluten-free version, substitute all-purpose flour and panko breadcrumbs with gluten-free alternatives.
