Ingredients
Scale
Dough and Butter Mixture
- 13.8 ounce can pizza dough
- 3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1 tsp garlic powder
Filling
- 8 oz pepperoni slices
- 1 1/2 cups (170g) shredded mozzarella cheese
Topping
- 1 large egg
- 1 tbsp grated parmesan cheese
Serving
- Marinara sauce, for dipping
Instructions
- Preheat oven: Preheat the oven to 375°F to ensure it’s ready for baking the pepperoni rolls.
- Prepare dough: Roll out the pizza dough on a piece of parchment paper into a 10×15 inch rectangle for even filling and rolling.
- Make butter mixture: Combine Italian seasoning and garlic powder with the melted butter, then brush half of the mixture evenly over the dough surface. Reserve the other half for later.
- Add filling: Arrange pepperoni slices evenly over the dough, overlapping as necessary, then sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese on top.
- Roll dough: Starting from the long side, tightly roll the dough into a log shape with the seam side down, then transfer the log along with the parchment paper onto a baking sheet.
- Egg wash: Whisk the egg in a small bowl and brush it over the top and sides of the dough log to promote browning and shine during baking.
- First bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes until the dough begins to set and lightly brown.
- Butter brushing: Warm the reserved butter mixture if needed and brush it generously over the log, then return to the oven to bake for an additional 5-10 minutes, until golden brown and fully cooked.
- Finishing touches: Remove from oven, sprinkle with grated parmesan cheese, and let it cool for 10 minutes to set before slicing.
- Serve: Cut the log into 1-inch thick slices and serve warm with marinara sauce for dipping.
Notes
- For extra crispiness, brush the dough log with butter mixture both before and halfway through baking.
- Use fresh mozzarella instead of shredded for a creamier texture if preferred.
- Let the rolls cool slightly before slicing to prevent cheese from oozing out.
- Marinara sauce can be warmed slightly to enhance flavor when serving.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container and reheat in the oven for best texture.
