Ingredients
Scale
White Layer:
- 2 packets unflavored gelatin (0.25 ounces each)
- ½ cup vodka
- ½ cup boiling water
- ½ cup simple syrup
- ½ cup whipped cream
- ½ teaspoon almond extract
Orange Layer:
- 1 box orange gelatin (3 ounces)
- ¾ cup boiling water
- ½ cup cold water
- ½ cup vodka
- ⅓ cup whipped cream
Yellow Layer:
- 1 box yellow gelatin (3 ounces)
- ¾ cup boiling water
- ½ cup cold water
- ½ cup vodka
- ⅓ cup whipped cream
Garnish (optional):
- Whipped cream
- Candy corn
Instructions
- Add gelatin to vodka: Pour the vodka for the white layer into a medium mixing bowl. Sprinkle the unflavored gelatin packets evenly over the vodka and mix lightly to ensure all the powder is moistened. Let it sit for 3-5 minutes until the gelatin blooms.
- Dissolve gelatin: Pour boiling water over the bloomed gelatin mixture and stir until the gelatin is fully dissolved.
- Add simple syrup and whipped cream: Stir in the simple syrup gently. Then add the whipped cream along with the almond extract and whisk lightly until combined, being careful not to create excess foam.
- Fill first layer: Using an injector or a pourable measuring glass, fill each shot cup about one-third full with the white layer mixture. Place the cups on an even surface in the refrigerator and chill for about 1 hour until set.
- Prepare orange layer: When the white layer is almost set, dissolve the orange gelatin powder in ¾ cup boiling water in a medium bowl. Stir well to dissolve completely.
- Add liquids to orange layer: Stir in the vodka and cold water until combined. Add the whipped cream and whisk lightly until integrated.
- Cool orange mixture: Let the orange gelatin mixture cool slightly (about 15 minutes) as the white layer finishes setting.
- Fill second layer: Add the orange gelatin mixture to the shot glasses to fill another one-third of the cup. Chill again for 1 hour or until fully set.
- Prepare yellow layer: Repeat the process with the yellow gelatin: dissolve the powder in ¾ cup boiling water, add vodka, cold water, and whipped cream, then whisk gently.
- Fill third layer: Pour the yellow gelatin mixture as the final third into each shot glass. Refrigerate until fully set.
- Garnish and serve: Once the yellow layer is set, top each shot with a dollop of whipped cream and a piece of candy corn before serving. Enjoy immediately.
Notes
- You can store uncovered jello shots in the refrigerator for up to 2 days or covered for up to 5 days.
- Use a Wilton 1M frosting tip and disposable frosting bag to neatly add whipped cream toppings.
- Do not garnish shots if not serving immediately; whipped cream and candy corn can become stiff and sticky if refrigerated after garnishing.
- If using glass shot glasses, provide mini spoons to help remove the shots as they cannot be loosened from the sides like plastic cups.
- Adjust serving size by using smaller shot glasses to make more shots; each color layer should fill approximately one-third of the chosen glass.
- You may skip the almond extract in the white layer or substitute another flavoring such as fruity extracts for variation.
- The whipped cream may create light white lines between layers due to settling; this is normal and helps define the layers visually.
- Do not freeze the jello shots as it will affect texture negatively.
