Potatoes
- 2 large baking potatoes Russet potatoes, sliced into 1/8-inch slices
- 6 cups ice water
Seasoning and Garnish
- Non-Aerosol olive oil cooking spray with no propellants and no additives
- 1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt (Lawry’s brand)
- Optional garnish - fresh chopped parsley or chives
Instructions
- Soak Potatoes: Place the thinly sliced potatoes into a large bowl with the ice water. Allow the potato slices to soak for 20 minutes to remove excess starch for crispier chips.
- Drain and Rinse: Drain the starchy ice water and rinse the potato slices under fresh cold water to remove remaining starch.
- Dry Potatoes: Place the potato slices onto a large baking sheet lined with paper towels in an even layer. Using another paper towel, pat the slices very dry to remove any moisture.
- Oil Coating: Spray the dried potato slices evenly on both sides with the non-aerosol olive oil cooking spray to ensure crispiness during air frying.
- Preheat Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 400°F to achieve optimal cooking temperature.
- Air Fry Chips: Place a single layer of the olive oil-coated potato slices into the air fryer basket, avoiding overcrowding or overlapping. Air fry for 15 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through cooking to ensure even frying. Monitor the last 2-3 minutes to prevent burning.
- Season and Serve: Transfer the cooked chips onto a serving plate and immediately sprinkle with seasoned salt so it adheres well while chips are hot. Garnish with fresh chopped parsley or chives if desired.
Notes
- Soaking the potato slices in ice water is crucial to remove starch for extra crispy chips.
- Patting the potatoes dry thoroughly before air frying prevents sogginess.
- Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket to ensure even cooking; cook in batches if needed.
- Monitor the chips closely at the end of cooking to avoid burning, as cooking times may vary depending on air fryer model.
- Use a non-aerosol olive oil spray for even oil coating without excess moisture.
